{"id":3387,"date":"2026-06-11T16:50:38","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T16:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/?p=3387"},"modified":"2026-06-11T16:50:38","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T16:50:38","slug":"safaricom-ceo-run-returns-to-power-lewa-conservation-and-community-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/?p=3387","title":{"rendered":"Safaricom CEO Run Returns to Power Lewa Conservation and Community Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre><strong><em>By Jeff Kizzilah Digital Editor <\/em><\/strong><\/pre>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Over 400 participants to join third edition of the CEO Run ahead of the 2026 Lewa Safari Marathon<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The third edition of the Safaricom CEO Run will take place this Saturday, June 13, at Karura Forest, bringing together more than 400 participants for a day of fitness, fundraising, and environmental conservation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Organized by Safaricom in partnership with Tusk, the annual race serves as a precursor to the renowned Lewa Safari Marathon and plays a significant role in mobilizing resources for conservation and community development initiatives at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Participants will compete in four race categories, including the 21-kilometre half marathon, 15-kilometre race, 10-kilometre race, and a 5-kilometre walk, providing opportunities for runners and fitness enthusiasts of all abilities to participate.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Speaking ahead of the event, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said the company remains committed to supporting initiatives that create lasting impact in communities while advancing wildlife conservation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThrough our long-standing support of the Lewa Safari Marathon, we have witnessed firsthand how sport can transform lives by unlocking access to education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods for communities around Lewa. This shared impact continues to inspire us to go even further through initiatives like the Karura Run, which brings together our partners, corporates, friends, and young people to participate, raise funds, and strengthen conservation efforts,\u201d said Ndegwa.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>The event will also spotlight the Lions of Lewa, a dedicated team of Safaricom employees who champion fundraising for wildlife conservation and community development while actively participating in the Lewa Safari Marathon. Since 2019, the group has consistently ranked among the top fundraisers, raising more than KES 1.2 million annually.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier this year, Safaricom announced a KES 10 million contribution towards the 2026 Lewa Safari Marathon, reinforcing a partnership that has spanned over two decades.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Lewa Safari Marathon is scheduled for June 27 and is expected to attract more than 1,500 participants from Kenya and around the world. The marathon will feature several categories, including the 42-kilometre full marathon, 21-kilometre half marathon, 10-kilometre race, and a 5-kilometre children&#8217;s race.<\/p>\n<p>Since its inception, the Lewa Safari Marathon has raised over KES 850 million to support conservation and community development projects across Kenya.
