{"id":3350,"date":"2026-06-11T07:53:51","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T07:53:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/?p=3350"},"modified":"2026-06-11T07:53:51","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T07:53:51","slug":"kcb-surpasses-green-financing-target-disburses-ksh48-8-billion-to-drive-east-africas-sustainable-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/?p=3350","title":{"rendered":"KCB Surpasses Green Financing Target, Disburses KSh48.8 Billion to Drive East Africa\u2019s Sustainable Future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Jeff Kizzilah Digital Editor\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>KCB Group Plc has strengthened its position as a regional leader in sustainable finance after disbursing KSh48.8 billion in green loans to support environmentally sustainable projects across East Africa, while screening KSh587.9 billion worth of transactions under its Environmental and Social Due Diligence framework.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<strong>According to the KCB Group Sustainability Report 2025, themed \u201cTransitioning Economies,\u201d the lender exceeded its strategic target of allocating 25 percent of its loan book to green projects, achieving 25.84 percent in 2025 compared to 21.6 percent in 2024.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe financing supported key sectors including renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, green buildings, clean transportation, water management, and climate-smart investments. Of the total green financing disbursed, KSh9.9 billion was independently verified as climate-eligible using the Climate Assessment for Financial Institutions (CAFI) tool.<br \/>\nKCB Group Chief Executive Officer Paul Russo said the bank is deliberately aligning its financing decisions and business strategy to promote climate resilience, sustainable enterprise growth, and inclusive economic development across the region.<br \/>\n\u201cKCB seeks to be a bigger player in shaping a robust and sustainable financial ecosystem throughout East Africa by continuously developing tailored green financing solutions for MSMEs, households, and corporates. Through strengthened partnerships with global climate financiers, product innovation, and capital mobilization, we aim to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy,\u201d said Russo.<br \/>\nBeyond financing, KCB significantly expanded its environmental conservation efforts, surpassing its target of planting 1.5 million trees by planting more than 3.5 million trees in 2025. The achievement was realized through over 200 tree-planting events conducted in partnership with 1,778 schools and various stakeholders across the region.<br \/>\nThe Group also accelerated clean energy adoption in the education sector through its Learning Institutions Customer Value Proposition (CVP), supporting 266 schools to transition to cleaner cooking technologies through financing worth KSh782.5 million. This initiative is helping reduce dependence on traditional biomass fuels while promoting sustainable learning environments.<br \/>\nKCB further expanded its renewable energy agenda by installing solar power systems in 16 branches, including Maasai Mara, Wajir, Mandera, Watamu, Lamu, Loitoktok, Kakuma, Namanga, and the Karen Leadership Centre. The bank plans to roll out solar energy solutions to 30 additional branches this year.<br \/>\nThese efforts contributed to a 2 percent reduction in fuel and electricity consumption and an overall 13 percent reduction in carbon emissions across the Group, demonstrating KCB\u2019s commitment to operational sustainability and climate action.<br \/>\nThe Group\u2019s social impact initiatives also delivered significant results. Through the KCB Foundation, more than 265,300 jobs were supported, while 16,549 young people benefited from workforce readiness and skills development programmes. Additionally, 38,635 youth-led enterprises received business development support under the 2Jiajiri Young Africa Works programme, helping entrepreneurs establish sustainable livelihoods.<br \/>\nOverall, KCB supported 67,090 businesses during the year, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive economic transformation and enterprise development.<br \/>\nIn advancing gender-inclusive financing, KCB disbursed KSh149 billion to women-led businesses through its Female-Led and Made Enterprise (FLME) programme, moving closer to its five-year commitment of unlocking KSh250 billion for women entrepreneurs.<br \/>\nThe bank also deepened financial inclusion among displaced communities by providing formal banking services to 20,299 refugees.
