Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Hon. Opiyo Wandayi has reaffirmed the Government of Kenya\u2019s commitment to accelerating the country\u2019s transition to electric mobility, describing Kenya as uniquely positioned to lead Africa\u2019s green transport revolution.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the 4th Kenya Power E-Mobility Conference held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) under the theme \u201cAligning Policy, Infrastructure and Partnerships to Scale E-Mobility in Kenya,\u201d<\/em> CS Wandayi highlighted the country\u2019s strong renewable energy foundation and ambitious policy framework as key drivers of the transition.<\/p>\n

The Cabinet Secretary noted that approximately 90 percent of Kenya\u2019s electricity is generated from renewable energy sources, giving the country a significant competitive advantage in the adoption of clean transportation technologies.<\/p>\n

\u201cKenya is well positioned to lead Africa\u2019s electric mobility transition. Through the National Electric Mobility Policy, continued investment in charging infrastructure, and incentives such as duty-free importation of the first 100,000 electric vehicles, we are creating an enabling environment for sustainable transport growth,\u201d said<\/strong> Wandayi.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He emphasized that electric mobility presents immense opportunities beyond environmental conservation, including strengthening national energy security, reducing transportation costs for households and businesses, creating employment opportunities, supporting local manufacturing, and advancing Kenya\u2019s green economy agenda.<\/p>\n

The government is working closely with industry players, development partners, investors, innovators, and research institutions to establish the necessary infrastructure and regulatory frameworks needed to accelerate electric vehicle adoption across the country.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The CS further underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in scaling charging networks, promoting local innovation, and ensuring affordable access to electric mobility solutions for Kenyans.<\/p>\n

As demand for clean and efficient transportation continues to grow globally, Kenya is positioning itself as a regional leader in sustainable mobility, leveraging its renewable energy resources to drive economic growth while reducing carbon emissions.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote innovation, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic development through the adoption of electric mobility technologies.<\/p>\n
