The United Alternative Government (UAG) has issued a strongly worded open letter to President William Ruto, accusing his administration of abandoning accountability, engaging in political diversion, and failing to address the pressing economic and social challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.<\/p>\n
In the extensive statement addressed directly to the President, UAG leaders argued that the recent attack by senior United Democratic Alliance (UDA) officials against former President Uhuru Kenyatta was a deliberate attempt to deflect attention from the government’s performance and growing public dissatisfaction.<\/p>\n

According to the opposition coalition, President Ruto cannot distance himself from statements issued by officials of the ruling party, insisting that constitutional accountability rests squarely with the Head of State.<\/p>\n

“The Presidency carries both authority and accountability. A President may delegate functions, but he cannot delegate responsibility,” the letter states.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The coalition criticized what it described as a dangerous return to divisive politics, warning against rhetoric that could reopen historical wounds and undermine national unity. It urged President Ruto to uphold his constitutional role as a symbol of unity and avoid political narratives that pit Kenyans against one another.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

UAG further questioned the government’s continued focus on former President Uhuru Kenyatta nearly four years after the transfer of power, arguing that the administration should instead focus on addressing the cost of living, unemployment, healthcare challenges, education reforms, and public debt.<\/p>\n

The opposition leaders reminded President Ruto that he served as Deputy President for ten years under the Jubilee administration and therefore shares responsibility for both its achievements and shortcomings.<\/p>\n

“You cannot sit at the dining table for ten years, enjoy the meal, then later claim you were merely passing by the kitchen,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The letter also raised concerns over the growing involvement of Cabinet Secretaries in partisan political activities, warning that the line between government administration and political campaigning is becoming increasingly blurred.<\/p>\n

On governance, the coalition accused the administration of failing to adequately address concerns surrounding taxation, healthcare reforms under the Social Health Authority, youth unemployment, affordable housing, public debt, and alleged violations of constitutional freedoms.<\/p>\n

The opposition further expressed concern over allegations of abductions, police excesses, and what it described as the increasing use of intimidation against government critics, urging the administration to respect constitutional rights and the rule of law.<\/p>\n

While acknowledging the government’s claims of economic stabilization and development achievements, UAG maintained that many Kenyans continue to struggle with high living costs, expensive fuel, rising electricity bills, and limited economic opportunities.<\/p>\n

The coalition concluded by challenging President Ruto to shift from political battles to governance, insisting that Kenyans elected him to solve problems rather than blame past administrations.<\/p>\n

“Today, William Ruto is President. UDA is the ruling party. Kenya Kwanza is the government. The responsibility is yours. No excuses. No scapegoats. No endless campaigns. Govern,” the statement concluded.<\/p>\n
