\"\"Hope, talent and resilience took center stage in Mathare after Safaricom Hook (S-Hook), in partnership with Kambi Safi Community Initiative, empowered young footballers through a grassroots sports program aimed at transforming lives and creating opportunities for the youth.<\/p>\n

The initiative saw four local football teams receive football kits, balls, tactical boards and goalkeeper gloves during a colorful handover event held at Mcedo Beijing Grounds in Mathare. The beneficiary teams included Young Cranes, Beijing Raiders, Flames FC and True Colours FC.<\/p>\n

The program seeks to create safe spaces for young people, nurture resilience and demonstrate how sports can open pathways to opportunity, mentorship and professional growth, especially for youth living in informal settlements.<\/p>\n

Kambi Safi Community Initiative currently supports the True Colours Football Team, a grassroots program that trains and mentors over 200 boys and girls aged between 8 and 18 years. Beyond football, the initiative also provides psychological support to children who have experienced trauma while instilling discipline, teamwork, confidence and leadership skills.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the event, Kambi Safi Chairman Peter Njogu said sports continue to play a critical role in transforming communities and giving young people hope for a better future.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen young people are given safe spaces, mentorship and opportunities to showcase their talents, they begin to believe in their potential. Initiatives such as this inspire hope, build confidence and help steer many young people away from negative influences while opening doors for their future,\u201d said Njogu.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The S-Hook initiative aligns with the vision behind the upcoming tournament, which aims to identify and nurture football talent across the country. Through the initiative, Safaricom hopes to engage Gen Z audiences within informal settlements and encourage them to view sports not only as recreation but also as a pathway to professional careers and social transformation.<\/p>\n

The event also featured exciting 7-aside football tournaments where the young players showcased their talent and determination. In the girls\u2019 match, Beijing Raiders staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Flames FC 3-1, with a crucial penalty bringing the game level before the Raiders sealed victory.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The boys\u2019 clash between Young Cranes and True Colours FC, dubbed the \u201cMathare Youth Derby,\u201d thrilled fans as Young Cranes secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory and held firm until the final whistle.<\/p>\n

Winning teams were awarded trophies in recognition of their performance and dedication.<\/p>\n

Organizers also used the event to encourage local teams to register for the upcoming competition, where teams will battle from ward-level qualifiers all the way to the national stage.<\/p>\n
