The Chief Executive Officer of the , Mr. Willy Mutai, has reaffirmed the Board\u2019s commitment to strengthening Kenya\u2019s tea industry through the implementation of the Tea Levy Regulations 2026, describing the reforms as a major step towards improving infrastructure, transparency, and competitiveness within the sector.<\/p>\n

Speaking during an important sensitization meeting on the implementation of the Tea Levy Regulations 2026, Mutai thanked the media fraternity for its continued role in informing the public and tea stakeholders on developments within the Kenyan tea industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tea sector remains one of the most strategic agricultural value chains in the country. It supports millions of livelihoods, contributes significantly to Kenya\u2019s foreign exchange earnings, and plays a critical role in supporting rural economic development,\u201d said Mutai.<\/p>\n

He noted that as the regulator of the tea sector, the Tea Board of Kenya is focused on implementing reforms and policies aimed at strengthening the competitiveness, sustainability, and profitability of Kenyan tea in the global market.<\/p>\n

According to Mutai, the Tea Levy Regulations 2026 provide a clear legal framework for the imposition, collection, and utilization of the tea levy to support infrastructure development in tea-growing regions across the country.<\/p>\n

He explained that the levy will directly contribute towards the improvement of tea access roads, tea collection centers, and other critical infrastructure that supports tea production, transportation, and market access for farmers and factories.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe regulations also seek to promote fairness, accountability, and proper management of the tea value chain while enhancing Kenya\u2019s position as a globally competitive tea producer and exporter,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Mutai emphasized that the successful implementation of the regulations will depend heavily on accurate public information, stakeholder understanding, and investor confidence, calling on the media to continue offering factual, balanced, and professional reporting on sector reforms.<\/p>\n

He said the engagement forum was intended to provide clarity on the objectives of the Tea Levy Regulations 2026, the applicable levy framework, compliance procedures, expected benefits to the tea sector, and the role of stakeholders during implementation.<\/p>\n

The TBK CEO further assured stakeholders that the Tea Board of Kenya remains committed to transparency, accountability, and open engagement with all industry players, including media practitioners.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe value the media as a strategic partner and remain committed to building a relationship founded on mutual respect, professionalism, collaboration, and regular engagement,\u201d Mutai said.<\/p>\n

He added that the Board will continue facilitating timely access to information, regular stakeholder briefings, and constructive dialogue aimed at enhancing public awareness on tea matters, promoting understanding of sector reforms, improving Kenya tea competitiveness locally and internationally, and supporting the government\u2019s agenda on agriculture, export growth, value addition, job creation, and economic transformation.<\/p>\n

Mutai also encouraged journalists and media houses to continue telling the positive story of Kenya tea while supporting informed public discourse on opportunities and reforms within the industry.<\/p>\n
