The Government, through Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura,<\/strong> <\/em>has issued a comprehensive update addressing concerns over fuel pricing, global market trends, the progress of the NYOTA Project, and rising cases of civil disruption and political violence.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the administration, Mwaura emphasized that fuel prices in Kenya are determined through a structured framework influenced by both domestic economic realities and global market forces. He noted that recent legislative amendments approved by Parliament have played a key role in cushioning Kenyans by lowering fuel costs.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Government highlighted that Kenya\u2019s classification as a middle-income economy justifies its pricing structure, urging citizens to compare fuel costs with similar economies rather than least developed countries. Additionally, the pricing reflects the country\u2019s significant investment in infrastructure, including tens of thousands of kilometers of road networks that require continuous maintenance funded partly through fuel levies.<\/p>\n

Mwaura further revealed that the Government\u2019s strategic fuel procurement agreements with suppliers in the Middle East\u2014particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE\u2014have allowed Kenya to access fuel on extended credit terms. This move has eased pressure on foreign exchange reserves, stabilized the Kenyan shilling, and helped manage inflation across key sectors such as transport and food.<\/p>\n

On global trends, the Government pointed out that fuel prices have surged in over 90 countries due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East. Countries like the United Kingdom and South Africa have recorded sharp increases, with similar trends observed across East Africa. Kenya\u2019s pricing adjustments, the Government said, have been carefully managed to shield consumers from abrupt shocks.<\/p>\n

The Government cautioned political actors against exploiting the current fuel price situation for political gain, stressing that the increases are largely driven by global dynamics beyond national control.<\/p>\n

On development initiatives, Mwaura provided an update on the NYOTA Project, reaffirming the Government\u2019s commitment to empowering youth through entrepreneurship and economic opportunities as part of its broader agenda to enhance livelihoods.<\/p>\n

Addressing security concerns, the Government strongly condemned incidents of civil unrest and political violence reported in parts of the country. It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting democratic space, and ensuring that all political engagements remain peaceful and within the confines of the law.<\/p>\n
