Nairobi, Kenya \u2013 Namata Director General has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Nairobi\u2019s mass transport system, pledging faster, more efficient, and commuter-friendly mobility across the city.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement forum, Gitau emphasized the urgent need to modernize public transport to match Nairobi\u2019s rapid urban growth. He noted that the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NAMATA) is prioritizing the integration of a world-class mass transit system aimed at reducing traffic congestion, cutting travel time, and improving the overall commuter experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to delivering a reliable, safe, and efficient integrated transport system that serves all Nairobi residents,\u201d said Gitau. \u201cOur focus is on building a seamless network that connects key parts of the city while promoting sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n

The proposed reforms include the expansion of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, improved non-motorized transport infrastructure such as pedestrian walkways and cycling lanes, and the digitization of fare systems to enhance convenience and accountability.<\/p>\n

Gitau further highlighted the importance of collaboration between national and county governments, private sector players, and development partners to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.<\/p>\n

The move comes amid growing concerns over Nairobi\u2019s persistent traffic congestion, which continues to cost the economy billions in lost productivity annually.<\/p>\n
