Airtel Africa, in partnership with SpaceX, has successfully completed data and messaging testing of Starlink Mobile services in Kenya, marking a major milestone in expanding satellite-to-mobile connectivity across the continent.<\/p>\n

\nThe testing, conducted in remote \u201cno connectivity\u201d zones where traditional mobile networks are unavailable, demonstrated the seamless activation of Starlink Mobile on standard 4G-compatible smartphones. Users were able to connect directly to Starlink satellite constellation, which currently includes over 650 launched satellites, enabling uninterrupted communication even in the most isolated locations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During the trial phase, the connectivity supported essential light-data applications such as WhatsApp calling and messaging, maps navigation, Facebook Messenger, and secure financial transactions via the Airtel app. This ensured that users could access critical digital services despite being outside terrestrial network coverage.<\/p>\n

Following the successful Kenyan pilot, Airtel Africa and SpaceX plan to expand the service across Airtel Africa\u2019s 14 markets, subject to regulatory approvals in each country. Future developments will include the rollout of voice calling and enhanced data capabilities powered by next-generation Starlink Mobile V2 technology, enabling broadband connectivity directly to mobile devices.
