From State House to Siaya: Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna Exits Powerful Spokesperson Role After Defining Era<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>After three years at the helm of government communication, Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Odhiambo Oguna has officially exited his role as Government Spokesperson, marking the end of a tenure that shaped public messaging during some of Kenya\u2019s most critical moments.<\/p>\n

\nA seasoned military officer turned public communicator, Colonel Oguna steered government narratives through complex and sensitive periods, including the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. He became a familiar face to Kenyans, delivering daily updates, policy directives, and national statistics at a time when clarity and reassurance were paramount.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During his tenure, he also handled high-profile political matters, notably the Miguna Miguna saga. In one of his widely quoted statements, Oguna maintained that the outspoken politician was free to return to the country once his documentation was in order\u2014a matter that was later resolved under a new administration.<\/p>\n

Before transitioning into government communication, Colonel Oguna had a distinguished career within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), where he held key roles in operations, training, intelligence, and public affairs. He notably served as Defence Attach\u00e9 at Kenya\u2019s High Commission in Dar es Salaam from 2014 to 2017.<\/p>\n

His leadership as KDF Spokesman during Operation Linda Nchi saw him provide consistent updates to the nation, especially during the strategic capture of Kismayo.<\/p>\n

He also previously led the KDF Intelligence Training School, underscoring his depth in both military strategy and communication.<\/p>\n

Academically, Colonel Oguna holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a second Master\u2019s degree in International Studies. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College, Kenya.<\/p>\n

In recognition of his service, he has received several national honors, including the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).<\/p>\n

Colonel (Rtd) Oguna now transitions to a new role as Chief of Staff in the Siaya County Government, where he is expected to bring his vast experience in leadership, strategy, and communication to county governance.<\/p>\n
