I can confidently attest that they are key pillars in ensuring parents understand and support this transformative curriculum,” he said.

The Chairman emphasized that CDEs play a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of NPA activities at the county level, particularly in supporting CBE implementation, learner transition, assessment, and placement to Senior School. He called on the government to further support these officers to maximize their impact.

Mr. Obuhatsa outlined several strategic roles that County Directors of Education can undertake in partnership with NPA leadership to strengthen CBE implementation:

CDEs are expected to coordinate regular parent sensitization forums to educate families on the structure of the CBE system, transition pathways to Senior School, subject selection, and assessment procedures. Such engagements ensure parents are well-informed and actively involved in their children’s academic journeys.

They also play a vital role in interpreting national education policies issued by key institutions such as the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), helping to demystify assessment frameworks and placement guidelines while addressing misinformation among parents.

Further, CDE offices are encouraged to facilitate capacity-building programs for NPA leaders at county and sub-county levels. These trainings equip parent representatives with the knowledge and tools necessary to support schools, monitor learner progress, and act as community ambassadors for CBE.

The Chairman also highlighted the importance of integrating parents into county-level education planning through stakeholder forums and implementation committees, fostering shared ownership of education reforms.

Additionally, CDEs can enhance information dissemination by distributing official CBE materials, including Senior School pathway guides and parent information leaflets, ensuring they reach grassroots communities through collaboration with NPA structures.

To strengthen dialogue, the association called for more community engagement platforms such as barazas, education days, and school forums where parents can raise concerns and receive guidance on transition, assessment, and placement processes.

Mr. Obuhatsa further noted that collaboration between CDEs and NPA leaders is essential in identifying and addressing challenges in CBE implementation. By collecting feedback from parents and schools, CDEs can provide valuable insights to inform policy decisions at the national level.

On career development, he urged CDEs to work closely with parents in promoting awareness of Senior School pathways, including STEM, Arts and Sports, and Social Sciences, enabling families to guide learners toward suitable career choices.

The Chairman also called for stronger school–parent partnerships, encouraging school heads and Boards of Management to actively engage NPA leaders to improve communication, learner discipline, and preparedness for Senior School transition.

Finally, he emphasized the need for resource mobilization through partnerships with county governments, development partners, and civil society organizations to support parent training and awareness initiatives.

“Parents Back CBE Rollout as NPA Praises County Education Directors for Strong Partnership” By Jeff Kizzilah The National Parents Association (NPA) National Chairman, Mr. Silas…

[26,30

post-1627","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-education","category-latest-updates
["GET
