The Upper Tana Nairobi Water Fund Trust (UTNWFT) together with The Nature Conservancy will host a special event to mark ten years of protecting the source of Nairobi\u2019s water, celebrating a decade of environmental conservation, community engagement, and sustainable water management.<\/p>\n

It’s the first Water Fund in Africa, the Upper Tana Nairobi Water Fund was established to safeguard the Upper Tana catchment, the critical ecosystem that provides up to 95 percent of Nairobi\u2019s water supply. Over the past decade, the initiative has brought together partners from government, private sector, and local communities to invest in nature-based solutions that protect rivers, improve land management, and enhance livelihoods.<\/p>\n

The catchment area has faced growing threats from climate change, deforestation, and land degradation, which have historically affected water quality and supply for millions of Nairobi residents. However, through strategic conservation efforts such as sustainable farming practices, restoration of degraded landscapes, and protection of riverbanks, the Water Fund has demonstrated that investing in nature is one of the most cost-effective ways to secure a city\u2019s water future.<\/p>\n

The upcoming event will highlight the landmark achievements recorded over the last ten years, including improved watershed management, strengthened community partnerships, and enhanced water security for Nairobi and surrounding regions. It will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on lessons learned and outline the next phase of conservation and water protection efforts.<\/p>\n

According to Ademola Ajagbe, Regional Managing Director for Africa at The Nature Conservancy, the initiative stands as a powerful example of how collaborative environmental action can deliver long-term benefits for both people and ecosystems.<\/p>\n
