NGEC Reaches Over 4,500 Women in Tharaka Nithi as Dr. Purity Ngina Champions Empowerment on International Women\u2019s Day<\/em><\/h6>\n

The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), led by Chairperson Dr. Purity Ngina, yesterday joined thousands of women in Tharaka Nithi County to commemorate International Women\u2019s Day, engaging more than 4,500 women from across the region in a day dedicated to empowerment, inclusion, and community support.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the celebrations, Dr. Ngina highlighted the Commission\u2019s commitment to advancing gender equality and uplifting vulnerable groups in line with this year\u2019s theme, \u201cGive to Gain.\u201d The event brought together government agencies and community partners to deliver vital services and support directly to the people.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Among the key initiatives undertaken, the Commission supported persons with disabilities by providing assistive devices and conducting assessments to ensure they receive appropriate support services. Schools also benefited from water tanks donated to improve sanitation, while sanitary towels were distributed to promote dignity and ensure girls remain in school.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Commission facilitated Social Health Authority (SHA) registrations, enabling residents to access healthcare services. Huduma Kenya was also present, offering a range of government services to community members.<\/p>\n

To further promote access to justice, legal aid services were provided, giving women and residents the opportunity to receive guidance on their rights and legal matters.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Commission, working alongside the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, also distributed food supplies to assist vulnerable households within the county.<\/p>\n

Environmental conservation was another key highlight of the celebrations. In partnership with the Kenya Forest Service, tree seedlings were distributed to encourage tree planting and strengthen community participation in protecting the environment.<\/p>\n

As part of the International Women\u2019s Day activities, mentorship sessions were held in schools for both boys and girls, focusing on leadership development, education, life skills, and the importance of nurturing respect and gender equality from an early age.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ngina noted that the engagement provided a vital platform for connecting communities with government services while strengthening partnerships between institutions and citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe event reaffirmed our collective commitment to advancing gender equality, inclusion, and sustainable development across the country,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
