Ruto Renames Shauri Moyo Housing Project After Late MP Johana Ng\u2019eno
\nPres. William Ruto on Friday directed that the Shauri Moyo Affordable Housing Project be renamed in honour of the late Johana Ng’eno, praising the fallen legislator for his unwavering support of the government\u2019s housing agenda.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the burial of the late MP at Emurua Dikirr Primary School in Narok County, President Ruto announced that the project will now be known as the Johana Ng\u2019eno Affordable Housing Estate, in recognition of Ng\u2019eno\u2019s leadership as chairperson of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cHon. Johana Ng\u2019eno ensured that the Housing Agenda succeeded. Many leaders came to me asking that I drop the Housing Agenda, but Ng\u2019eno was not among them,\u201d President Ruto said.<\/p>\n

The Head of State praised the late legislator for championing the Affordable Housing Programme in Parliament and acknowledged the role played by members of the Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works Committee in pushing the policy forward.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cWhen I write a book, I will dedicate an entire chapter to the Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works for the role they played in supporting this agenda,\u201d the President added.<\/p>\n

President Ruto also directed the Ministry of Sports and Culture to allocate Sh20 million annually to support music festivals, saying the initiative would honour Ng\u2019eno\u2019s passion for nurturing the creative industry.<\/p>\n

Hon. Ng\u2019eno, widely referred to by musicians as the \u201cFather of Musicians,\u201d died alongside five others in a helicopter crash on February 28 in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County. The aircraft reportedly attempted an emergency landing before bursting into flames.<\/p>\n

The President credited the late MP with spearheading development projects in Emurua Dikirr, noting that the region\u2019s road network, technical training institutions, and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus all reflected his leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe history of this area cannot be fully told without Ng\u2019eno. The road network, the technical schools and even the KMTC campus all carry his signature,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also paid tribute to the legislator, describing him as a bold leader who fiercely defended the interests of his constituents.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew Ng\u2019eno quite well. We did not agree on many things, but he was a very good friend of mine,\u201d Prof. Kindiki said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe agreed on the vision he had for the people of Emurua Dikirr, although we sometimes differed on the methodology.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Deputy President added that many people underestimated Ng\u2019eno\u2019s intellect and leadership qualities, describing him as a visionary who combined firmness in politics with warmth in personal relationships.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a strong defender of his people, sometimes abrasive, but he balanced that with easy laughter when off duty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Members of Parliament from both Houses, and several Cabinet Secretaries attended the burial, alongside regional leaders and musicians who credited the late MP with supporting the music industry and strengthening cultural ties within the Kalenjin community.<\/p>\n

Leaders across the political divide described Hon. Ng\u2019eno as a fearless legislator whose legacy will remain deeply rooted in the development of Emurua Dikirr and the welfare of its people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
